We are fundraising for Kieran to attend Bobath Scotland. Kieran is 10 years old and has a great sense of humour and an infectious smile. He loves books and spending time on his iPad as well as being active by going to Scouts and swimming.
The challenge we have set Kieran is to complete the 2.5km family run on 29 Sep 2018. He will be pushed around the course in his three-wheeler all terrain chair for some of the course by his mum Tracey and cousins Craig and Bradan (11 years old). Kieran will then cross the finish line by himself in his upright walker support, the distance covered walking will depend on his recovery from a recent operation. Kieran is a determined young lad and we see this as the start of bigger and longer events in the future.
Why does Kieran need Bobath Scotland? Due to complications at birth Kieran was deprived of oxygen resulting in him now living with Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy. This has been a challenge for him and us as a family with Kieran receiving daily physio, botox and surgery to reduce tightness in his muscles and help improve his fine motor skills.
The work carried out at Bobath Scotland allows us as a family to support Kieran in the activities he loves such as cycling, dancing and play. This is done by providing a range of services that support Kieran and people living with Cerebral Palsy to make the most of their abilities and reach their full potential.
We know that Bobath therapy works for Kieran as we have used the service before. As parents we have found this to be an amazing experience; we learned to be more confident in handling and playing along with Kieran. Bobath therapy hasn’t just supported Kieran physically but also it has played a positive part on his mental health. This is vital for us due to Kieran using various pieces of equipment to allow him to take part in daily activities which keep him included. Bobath Scotland is instrumental in supporting us all to support Kieran as he grows; educating and supporting us to help develop and maintain Kieran with his mobility and help our happy, fun loving boy to be as independent as possible.
